My Story
In the summer of 1994, after not having played golf for some 15 years, I decided to take up the game again. After doing a little research and determining what I could spend, I went to the largest golf store in Seattle to find a set of clubs just right for me. After spending $700, I bought the set of clubs the salesman was selling that day. Upon returning home I felt frustrated for not being well enough informed and truly not knowing if I got my money's worth. I have since found out that neither did I get a very good deal for my money nor did I get the right clubs. When we spend that much money on something for our entertainment, it should be fun--not confusing and frustrating.
I started reading everything on clubmaking I could find. I made clubs for my 8-year-old son and then myself. I have since made over 140 sets of clubs and performed thousands of repairs and adjustments.
After I ran out of friends to build clubs for, I started Bainbridge Custom Clubs in the Fall of 1997.
I am now a Custom Clubmaker, having attended Golfsmith's Advanced Clubmaking, Fitting and Repair School in Austin, Texas. This is considered the best school in the industry. In December 1998, I completed an intensive exam and was awarded the highest accreditation given by the Golf Clubmakers Association (GCA) -- Advanced Clubmaker.
In January 2002 I began doing the golf club repairs for Meadowmeer Golf and Country Club. In the fall of the same year I also started the repair responsibilities for Wing Point Golf and Country Club.
As of February 1, 2007 I assumed the business of clubmaker Don Merry. Don was the clubmaker located at Northwest Golf Range on Wagga Way in Bremerton. I bought Don's inventory and assumed his repair work with Northwest Golf Range, Gold Mountain Golf Complex, and Rolling Hills Golf Course.
I was named Washington State Clubmaker of the Year for 2007 - 2008 and 2009 - 2010 through Golf Clubmaker Association (GCA).
My Shop: I work out of my garage where I have all of the tools and equipment to do professional clubmaking. I have enough inventory to do almost any repair or adjustment. Normally, I have about 500 shafts both steel and graphite and over 730 grips in stock.
